Two new modules have been added:  ‘Talking about Overweight and Obesity’ and ‘Promoting Mental Health and Wellbeing’.

Theresa Lowry Lehnen, the Nurse at SETU, Carlow campus, was involved in the development and review process of these two new MECC modules.

Drug Use in Higher Education in Ireland (DUHEI) Survey: Main Findings. DUHEI Town Hall 2022 Results, Recommendations & Reflections (30/05/2022)

The DUHEI report 2021, is the most comprehensive in-depth survey of drug use in higher education in Ireland in 20 years, and provides invaluable data to inform policy- and decision-making. 

The aim of the DUHEI Survey was to determine the prevalence and correlates of drug use among the HE student population in Ireland to help inform future policy and practice in the area.

First case of monkeypox confirmed in Ireland. 28th May 2022

The first case of the monkeypox virus has been confirmed in Ireland.

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre was last night notified of the confirmed case in the east of the country. In a statement, the Health Service Executive said the person had not been hospitalised. It said this case was not unexpected following the presence of monkeypox cases in the UK and many European countries.

IFPA Contraception Foundation Course for Nurses and Midwives. June 11th and 12th 2022.

The IFPA has been offering training for medical professionals since 1977. The Contraception Foundation Course for Nurses and Midwives provides the knowledge and skills to deliver a family planning service of high medical standard.

This two-day course:

caters to the specific needs of nurses and midwives
consists of theoretical and practical training
is facilitated by IFPA Medical Director with input from field experts
is delivered over two days, with 1.5 days theoretical training and a half day practical training
is approved by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland, Category 1
